Ph. D. in Biodiversity: Chemotaxonomy, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, 2001
Title of Thesis: Chemotaxonomic Investigation on the Family Dipterocarpaceae using Flavonoid Analysis
» Performed flavonoid analysis to resolve disagreements in the taxonomy of the family Dipterocarpaceae of Sri Lanka, which previously had two views regarding classification with significant differences in generic, sub-generic and species boundaries
» Identified 5 aglycones: flavonol, myricetin, quercetin, kaempferol, flavone luteolin and apigenin and proanthocyainidin
» Isolated 6 glycoside compounds: quercetin 3-glucoside, quercetin 3-rutinoside, quercetin 3,xylosylglucoside, kaempferol 3,5 glucoside, luteolin 5 glucoside and apigenin 5 glucoside
» Used cluster analysis and SEM
