This book is one of the milestones in the path of sound and sustainable management of resources. Aqttempt has also been made to document the reference from 1946 to 2004. Finally, effort has also been made to identify lacunas and constrients surfaced both at the policy and program as well as at implementation level and to recommend future course of action agenda for mataining balance between socio-economic needs of the people and the capacity of the earth ecosystems so as to fulfill the needs of present and future generations”

Ethnobotany (International Journal of the Society of Ethnobotanists ) Vol. 17, No. 1-2, 2005. p.188.

The book comprises six chapters, five annexes and author index. The first chapter ‘ Introduction’ gives an overview of plant diversity and its significance and conservation initiatives at global, regional and national levels. Chapter two gives an account of Nepal ‘s physiography, vegetation, biodiversity and uses of plant resources. Chapter three gives a brief account of botanical exploration and documentation only up to 1992 . The fourth chapter, which is the main portion of the book, deals wit trends of ethnobotanical research, conservation of useful species and bibliography. The bibliography has a total of 1063 references arranged alphabetically by author name, which in general covers the period 1946 to 2004. Chapter five provides initiatives for development of ethnobotany and conservation of plant resources. Chapter six gives a brief account of the agenda for sustainable management of bioresources in Nepal.

Most of the photographs (black and white) are clear and satisfactory. The author index is useful for locating the work of co-authors. Selected references are given in the end of every chapter; some of them are also mentioned in the main bibliography.

The book is handy and interesting, particularly for researchers, teachers, foresters , policy- makers and scientists, The publication is informative and will be useful for ethnobotany and conservation of plant diversity in Nepal. The printing and production of the book are good.
